Hi, I’m Collin.

ABOUT ME

Type 1 Diabetic. Traveler. Advocate

Founder of Glucose Getaways.

I Created Glucose Getaways for the person I used to be.

The person who wanted to see the world but wasn't sure if diabetes would let them.

Through real experiences, practical resources, and honest advice, my goal is simple:

To help more people realize that diabetes doesn't have to decide where their story takes them.

When Everything Changed

When I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 16, it felt like the world suddenly became a little smaller.

Every dream suddenly came with a question mark attached to it.

Could I really do that now?

What if something went wrong in another country?

What if I ran out of supplies?

For a long time, those fears sat quietly in the back of my mind.

Diabetes didn't stop me from dreaming, but it made those dreams feel more complicated.

Taking the First Trip

Eventually, I decided to take the trip.

I was nervous. I packed extra supplies. Then extra supplies for those supplies.

I worried about airport security, time zones, insulin, and every possible thing that could go wrong.

And then I stepped onto the plane.

The trip was perfect. My blood sugars weren't perfect. But I was doing it.

I was living a dream I wasn't sure would still be possible after my diagnosis.

Places that Changed Everything

Colosseum

Italy

Walking through centuries of history while managing diabetes abroad gave me a level of confidence I never expected.

Skógafoss Iceland

Iceland

Glaciers, waterfalls, and endless landscapes taught me that some of the most rewarding experiences are found on the other side of uncertainty.

Japan

Standing beneath Mount Fuji reminded me how far I’d come, from worrying whether I could travel, to exploring one of the places I’d always dreamed of visiting.

What I Learned

The goal was never to travel without diabetes.

The goal was to learn how to travel with it.

With preparation, knowledge, and experience, the thing that once felt like a limitation became something I learned to navigate.

Every trip gave me more confidence. Every challenge taught me something new. And every destination reminded me that the world is still open to us.

Preparation creates freedom.

Confidence comes from knowing how to adapt.

Diabetes came with me everywhere, but it never got to decide where I went.

I created Glucose Getaways because I remember what it felt like to wonder if any of this was still possible.

I wanted a place where people with diabetes could find real answers, honest advice, and the confidence to travel the world on their own terms.

If this site helps even one person book the trip they’ve been putting off, then it’s doing exactly what I hoped it would.
