Diabetes Diagnosis to Departure
Why I Started Glucose Getaways
I never thought I’d travel the world with diabetes, until I did.
When I was 16, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, the first in my family. No one around me truly understood what it meant or how to manage it. I had to learn everything on my own. And while that was hard, what came next felt even harder: traveling with diabetes.
For years, I avoided travel altogether, not because I didn’t want to see the world, but because I was scared.
What if something went wrong? What if I couldn’t find the right food? What if my insulin got ruined in transit? The fears were endless and very real.
Eventually, I faced those fears and took my first international trip to Italy for a little over 2 weeks. I searched everywhere for advice on traveling with diabetes, and while I found some info, most of it was either generic or unrealistic. It sounded good, but it didn’t help me when I was on the ground, trying to figure out how to keep my insulin cold or get through security with my supplies.
That’s when I realized:
👉 People with diabetes need honest, practical, experience-based travel guidance.
👉 Not fluff, not fear, but fundamental tools to help them travel confidently.
And that’s how Glucose Getaways was born.
This brand is for people like me, people who want to explore the world but are held back by uncertainty, fear, or a lack of support.
It’s for diabetics who are tired of piecing together information and wish there was one place that just got it.
I’m proud of how I’ve learned to travel with diabetes, to adjust, to problem-solve, and most importantly, to keep going. I don’t believe traveling with diabetes will ever be easy, but I do think we can make it easier, and that’s what Glucose Getaways is here to do.
